Like many other festivals and events, Oban International Shanty Festival has had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 containment measures.

But, ‘you can’t keep a good shanty down’, say organisers and the inaugural event will now be streamed online for free.

Members of the community are being invited to listen in or even take part themselves on Saturday June 6, between 7.30-11.30pm.

The first Oban International Shanty Festival was due to be launched on the weekend of June 5-7 and many of the professional sea shanty bands who were set to appear will be performing either individually or in their groups on the night.

Les Brouilleurs d’Ecoutes, Pressgang Mutiny, Monkey’s Fist, The Naze Shanty Crew, The Keelers, and Muldoon’s Picnic will be among those taking part on the night.

These acts will be interspersed with Open Mic slots for other performers and this could be you. If you would like to take part, apply in writing to, or you could just sing along as one of the audience.

Register at: for the link on the night.
