BIRTHS
RAYBOULD – Alex and Vairi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their son Donnie Blake at Cumberland Infirmary on May 11, 2020. A wee brother for Laila, grandson for Julie and Mike, Carlisle and Joanie and John, Tobermory.
DEATHS
CLARK – Duncan Gillies, of Achnamara, Main Street, Port Charlotte, Islay passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, aged 79. Much loved brother to Effie, dear father and father-in-law to Mary, David, John and Shona. Special Papa to Helen, Rosie, Kathryn, Sophie and Lucy. Funeral service and interment was held at Kilchoman Cemetery on Monday, May 18, 2020.
GILLIES – Margaret. Peacefully at Eader Glinn Care Home, Oban on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in her 83rd year. Margaret, cherished mother to the late James, loving mother-in-law to Sheena, devoted Gran to Nick and adored sister to Robert, Anne, Elizabeth and Philip. Sister-in-law to Heather, Wilbert, Romas and Caroline. A very special auntie to Wendy, Julie, Scott, Ross and families. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Eader Glinn for their exceptional care in these difficult times, and the Macmillan nurses who treated her with love and compassion for many years. A private service was held at Pennyfuir Cemetery on Monday, May 18. Donations are welcome to Macmillan Cancer Support or Eader Glinn in Margaret’s memory. A very dear friend and neighbour, Margaret will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
MACKECHNIE – Gilbert John. Peacefully at his home in Oban on May 12, 2020, aged 76, with his family at his side. Beloved husband of Iona. Much loved dad to Jan and Iain. Stepdad to Paula and Laura and adored Papa to Nadia, Joe, Quinn, Georgie, Lucas, Kai and baby Neil. Gilbert’s funeral took place on May 19 at his home and thereafter to Pennyfuir Cemetery. Sorely missed and forever loved. Any donations will be given to Eader Glinn Care Home as Gilbert was very grateful for the care they gave his uncle John.
McKERRELL – John Douglas (Ian) sadly passed away peacefully at his beloved Island Farm, Bowmore, on May 17, 2020, aged 75 years. Much loved husband to Margaret, devoted dad to Tracey, Morven and Arlene and cherished papa to Ryan, Rachel, Olivia, Freya and John. Ian was a much loved and respected member of the farming community on Islay and beyond and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A private funeral service was held at Bowmore Cemetery on Wednesday, May 20 where family paid their last respects to him. A celebration of Ian’s life will be held at a later date. “A gentle nature, a heart of gold, these are the memories we will hold, Gentle Jesus up above, please give papa all our love”.
NICOLSON – Suddenly but peacefully on May 11, 2020 in his 83rd year, Donald (Nicky) Nicolson, husband of Ann, brother to John and the late Catherine, Dorothy, Malcolm and Margaret. Much loved dad of Margaret and Janet, dear father-in-law to Colin and Stewart, devoted seanair to Isla, William, Nicola, Jacquelyn and Emma. Gone but never forgotten.
ORR – Jan (née Gemmell), aged 81. Peacefully at home with her family on Sunday, May 17, 2020. Wife to Willie, mother of David, Kate, Erin, Sally and the late Jamie. Mother-in-law to Sandy, Sue, Tim and Gordon. Beloved grandmother of eleven and great-grandmother to three. Irreplaceable.
REID – Florence Phoebe Reid née Lazenby, formerly Boundary Cottage, near Kilmore, peacefully at Victoria Park Care Home Edinburgh on May 4, 2020. Mother of Peter, Brian and Andrew, grandmother of Corinna and Abi and great-grandmother. Sadly missed.

BRADY – Betty and Kathleen would like to thank neighbours, friends, family and the many people who telephoned, sent cards, letters, Mass cards and flowers. Your kind words and memories of James meant so much to us. We especially want to thank those who held us in prayer throughout this time. Thank you to everyone who came out to pay their respects and to Fr David and Deacon Thomas for the beautiful and peaceful farewell at Glen Nevis and for all their love throughout. Thanks to Manson and MacBeath for their perfect care and professionalism. Finally, our grateful thanks to Tweedale surgery, particularly Dr Pooleman, the district nurses Mags and Joan, Macmillan, Crossroads and Day and Night Owls for all their loving care. Deo gratias.
COKE – Andrew. Jean and family would like to thank all medical staff at Belford Hospital and the quick response from the Ambulance Service. To Reverend Dr Malcom Kinnear for his comforting service at the graveside. To Jamie and Beth for their kind, professional help. Thank you to all friends and neighbours for their kind expressions of support as the cortege passed through the village. This was much appreciated by the family.
MACLEAN – Neil, Edna and family would like to thank everyone for all their kind expressions of sympathy and attendance at the funeral on the loss of Addie. Many thanks also to Billy McClymont for the funeral arrangements and the Rev Liz Gibson for the lovely graveside service.
MACLEAN – Marion, Margo and families wish to thank most sincerely all relatives, friends and neighbours for kind expressions of sympathy extended to them in their recent sad loss of their Mum, Chrissie. Special thanks to Calmac crew for respect shown and D Chisholm & Sons of Inverness and Co-op, Tiree for caring and efficient funeral arrangements.
McCRACKEN – David Dunbar. The family of the late David McCracken would like to thank most sincerely all relatives and friends for the kind expressions of sympathy extended to them in their recent bereavement. Special thanks to Rev. Lyn Peden for a beautiful service and our grateful appreciation to all at Co-op Funeralcare in Lady Lane, for professional handling of arrangements.
MONTGOMERY – Marlene. Donnie and Raymond would like to thank all relatives, friends and neighbours for the love and kindness shown after Mum’s sudden passing. Thanks also to the emergency services and Manson and MacBeath for all their help and support with the funeral arrangements. Our thanks to Rev Dr Malcolm Kinnear for his comforting funeral service and the kindness shown to Mum over the years. Over £1,900 has now been raised in memory of Mum for Mary’s Meals at www.justgiving.com/marlene-montgomery. Thanks everyone for all your wonderful donations. Mum would be so pleased that over 120 children will be fed every day for the next year.
MONTGOMERY – Donald and Jane would like to thank everyone who sent cards, telephone calls, flowers, baking and fresh eggs following the sudden passing of our sister Marlene. We were overwhelmed by your kindness. Marlene will be sadly missed.

MACDONALD – First anniversary, May 23, 2019. Caroline, a beautiful daughter to Arthur and Josie, who passed away too soon, aged 52 years.
