The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the NHS Highland area has jumped from 13 to 22 since yesterday’s figures were announced.

There are currently 719 positive cases across Scotland but the actual number of cases is likely to be in the tens of thousands, according to estimates from the country’s chief medical officer Dr Catherine Calderwood.

There have been 22 deaths in Scotland since the first fatality was recorded on March 13 in the Lothian area.

The country’s first coronavirus case was detected on March 1 by NHS Tayside.
