The Edinburgh and District Motorcycle Club, which organises the Scottish Six Days Trial and Pre ’65 Scottish Trial, has confirmed that both this year’s events due to be held in May have now been cancelled due to the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak.
In a statement on the club’s website today (Monday), club chairman Pete Bremner stated: ‘Following advice from the Scottish Government, the Scottish Autocycle Union [SACU] have cancelled all motorcycle sporting events up to May 31.
‘Competitors who have entered the events will be contacted shortly to advise on refunds and the next steps.’
The SACU is the sport’s governing body and on its website today, its chairman, Sandy Mack, explained: ‘The board of directors has made the very hard decision to cancel all SACU permitted events till May 31, 2020. We will assess the situation after this date.
‘This has not been an easy decision for the board, but considering the situation with the spread of the virus we believe this is the best way to proceed in the interest of our members and their families to ensure their wellbeing.
‘We will make every effort to ensure scope for any Scottish Championship events to find other dates in the calendar.
‘I hope you all can understand this decision, and that it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of all involved in Motorcycle Sport.’
