The last Saturday in January is always the date of the annual tournament organised by ‘The Garry Girls’ of Invergarry Shinty Club.

Now in its 23rd year, the tournament, sponsored by Ailsa Johnstone, formerly of D A Johnstone and Son, Contractors, is so popular it now has an upper limit of 12 teams to fit the tournament into a five-hour slot in Fort William’s Nevis Centre.

Teams were split into two leagues, picked by random number selection, with League A consisting of Glengarry ‘A’, Strathglass, Inverness, Skye ‘B’, Oban Lorn and Ardnamurchan ‘B’.

League B comprised Badenoch, Glengarry ‘B’, Skye ‘A’, Ardnamurchan ‘A’, Aberdour and Lochaber

Winners of League ‘A’ were Inverness, with Glengarry ‘A’ runners-up. Badenoch won League ‘B’ with Skye ‘A’ runners-up.

Darcie Williamson presents the trophy to Caitlin MacLean, captain of the winning Skye ‘A’ team as sponsor Ailsa Johnstone was unable to attend.

In the semi-finals, Skye ‘A’ beat Inverness 9-1 with Badenoch overcoming Glengarry ‘A’ 7-1, resulting in a Badenoch and Skye ‘A’ final.

After a thrilling match which ended in a 4-4 draw, another close-run four minutes of extra time brought another goal from Skye ‘A’ to take the much sought after trophy.
