At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However, rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free.
To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.
We value our content and access to our full site is only available with a subscription. Your subscription entitles you to 7-day-a-week access to our website, plus a full digital copy of that week’s paper to read on your pc/mac or mobile device. In addition, your subscription includes access to digital archive copies from 2006 onwards.
Just want to read one issue? No problem you can subscribe for just one week (or longer if you wish).
Following on from the success of its inaugural event in 2019, Oban Pride has announced this year’s festivities will take place on Saturday May 30.
Having recently been granted charity status the group has also received £10, 000 worth of funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to help towards the venue, technical and security hire.
This year’s event will also see a change of venue with the Corran Halls hosting a fabulous line-up of national and international stars, as well as community stalls, family area and introducing a new youth zone.
Chairperson Phill Dexter told us: ‘Oban pride is pleased to be returning in 2020 bringing another fabulous pride event for the LGBTQ+ community and allies in Oban and surrounding areas.
‘The Oban Pride committee are working extremely hard to bring this event to the area whilst keeping it as a free public event.
‘We still have a lot of funds to raise for Oban Pride 2020 and have some funding applications in and are actively seeking sponsorships, donations as well as organising fundraising events.’
The first of these fundraising events will take place on Saturday February 29 when once the group will be working alongside Oban Phoenix Cinema to bring a sing-a-long Rocky Horror Picture Show hosted by Oban Pride’s very own Crystal. More details will be announced on the Oban Pride Facebook page in the forthcoming weeks.
Oban Pride is completely organised and run by volunteers, anyone interested in volunteering or supporting the group should contact them via their Facebook page or by emailing email@example.com
