Glencoe Mountain Resort remains closed today (Boxing Day) after a fire ripped through its Base Station Building in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Despite fire crews from across the region with eight appliances quickly on scene to tackle the blaze, the timber building, which housed a cafe, was almost totally destroyed.

The centre is completely closed to the public today (December 26) while the structure of the damaged building is made safe.

All ski lessons and accommodation bookings for today are also cancelled.

In a statement on its Facebook page, the centre commented: ‘We hope to be able to re-open for skiing, snowboarding and sledging (weather permitting) on the 27th Dec. Updates to follow tomorrow.

‘Thank you for all your messages and offers of support, they are massively appreciated by us all.’

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told the Lochaber Times yesterday: ‘We were alerted at 4.40am on Wednesday, December 25, to reports of smoke issuing from a building. No evacuation was required and there are no reported casualties.’
