MACINNES – Iain and Claire (née Kennedy) are delighted to announce the birth of their son John Alastair on November 13, 2019. A little brother for Amy and another grandson for both families, Tiree and Oban.

CAMERON – Peacefully at Etive House Care Home, Benderloch, surrounded by her loving family on December 6, 2019 in her 99th year, Flora Cameron née MacInnes (retired school teacher), widow of Alasdair, loving mum of Gregor, Allan, Kirsty and the late Sandra, much loved grandmother and great-grandmother, dear sister of Maimie, Allan and the late Ina, Johnnie, Katie, Jessie and Anne. Funeral will take place at Oban Parish Church, Glencruitten Road, Oban on Tuesday, December 17 at 1.00 pm, thereafter to Pennyfuir Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu of flowers for Alzheimer’s Scotland and Oban Lion’s Club.
GALBRAITH – Suddenly on December 3, 2019, at the R.A.H. Paisley, Archie (Baldy) Galbraith in his 84th year, of 26 Dun Mor Avenue, Lochgilphead and formerly of Ormsary Estate. Beloved husband of Annie and much loved father of Christine and the late Finlay, cherished grandpa of Neil, Mhairi and Iain, much respected father-in- law and dear brother, uncle and cousin to all the family. Funeral service was held in Lochgilphead Parish Church on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 followed by interment at Achnabreac Cemetery. Sadly missed.
GALBRAITH – Peacefully, on December 10, 2019, at home with her family at her side, Valerie (Val), aged 80 years, beloved wife of the late Gal and loving mother of Sonny, Sandy, Jayne and Wendy and much loved Granny of Lisa and Abby. Funeral service will take place at Oban Parish Church, Glencruitten Road, Oban, on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at 1.00 p.m; thereafter to Pennyfuir Cemetery. LAIDLAW – Mary (née McDiarmid), (formerly Lochgilphead and Oban). Peacefully, on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at Strachan House Care Home, Edinburgh, Mary, beloved wife of the late Alec, doting mum to Marion and Ally and adored and selfless granny of Jamie, Donnie, Robbie, Jennie, Nicky, Danny and Mollie. Also a treasured and respected mother-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and great-great aunt to her wonderful family. A popular friend to many. Funeral will take place at Mortonhall Crematorium, Main Chapel on Wednesday, December 18 at 12pm. All warmly invited. Donations on the day will be split equally between Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland and Hope Kitchen, Oban. Sorely missed by all.
MACKAY – Peacefully, after a short illness, at Lorn and Islands Hospital, Oban, on December 8, 2019, Malcolm Duncan MacKay, in his 79th year, of 13 Chalmers Court, Inveraray, and previously of Electric Cottage, Inveraray, beloved husband of the late Liz, much loved father of Iain, Catherine and the late Calum, much respected father-in-law of Tracy and Stuart, dear brother of Jake and the late Duncan, and a dearly loved uncle and cousin to all the family. A good neighbour and great friend to many. Funeral service will be held in Inveraray Parish Church, on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11.00am, thereafter to Glen Shira Cemetery, Inveraray. McEWAN – Helen Pullar Ash McEwan (née McAllister) of Etive Gardens, Oban. Died peacefully on December 7, 2019 in Moss Park Nursing Home, Fort William, aged 92. She was a wonderful and special wife to the late Bob, mum to Gavin and Fiona, mother-in-law, granny, great-granny, aunt and friend to many. Funeral will take place from St John’s Cathedral, Oban on Friday, December 13 at 10am, thereafter to Perth Crematorium at 2pm. All friends are respectfully invited to attend. No flowers please. RAPLEY – William (Bill). On December 7, 2019 at Arran War Memorial Hospital, Lamlash, Isle of Arran. Husband of the late Barbara and dad to Sally, Clive and Mike, a much loved grandad and great grandad. Will be sadly missed by all.
RUSSELL – Anthony Walter (Tony), aged 82. Peacefully at Moss Park Care Home Fort William on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Formerly of Tobermory. Beloved husband of Catherine, dear father to Ranald and Kim. Grandad to Dylan. Now resting after a long journey.
WALKER – Invergarry. Passed away while enjoying a Mediterranean cruise with his friends, Peter Walker, Oak Villa, Invergarry, aged 81 years. Ex Forestry Commission and proprietor of the Well of the Seven Heads, Invergarry for over 40 years. Beloved husband of the late Catherine, much loved father of Carol, Peter and Norman, dear grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend of many. Funeral service on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 1.00pm in Invergarry Church, thereafter to Invergarry Cemetery. All friends respectfully invited. Family flowers only please. MACDONALD – The family of the late Effie would like to thank everyone for their sympathy and support shown to them after her passing. Grateful thanks to the medical staff and carers who attended to Effie over the years. Thanks to those who sent flowers, cards and all who visited. Special thanks to the Rev. Bruce Neill and the Rev. Alan Millar for a comforting service, Stuart MacDonald for his kind words, Joyce MacInnes for playing the organ and Iain Smith for playing Effie’s favourite songs on the accordion. Thanks to all who came to pay their last respects and to the Co-op for their compassionate funeral care also the Lodge Hotel for the refreshments afterwards. Finally thanks to all who donated generously to the retiral collection which raised £305.92 for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
MACKELLAR – The family of the late Jessie would like to thank everyone for their expressions of sympathy and support shown to them at this very sad time. For all the flowers, cards, phone calls and home baking and to all who visited Jessie at home and in hospital. Grateful thanks to Billy McClymont for his compassionate funeral arrangements. To the Rev Jenny Earl, Robert and Ross for the moving extra special service, to Iain and Gavin for piping, Marion MacKie and the girls who provided us all with excellent refreshments. Jessie would have been overwhelmed. The sum of £1,300 from donations will be equally divided between Macmillan Care and Mull and Iona community Hospital.
MACPHERSON – The family of the late John (Iain) Macpherson wish to thank all extended family, friends and neighbours for the kind expressions of sympathy and support extended to them by way of cards, letters, telephone calls and visits following their recent sad loss of Iain, a dearly loved husband, father, papa, brother and father-in-law. Grateful thanks to the Rev John Sheddon for his kind and thoughtful service and to Russell Buchanan for his very special eulogy. Many thanks to the Dalmally Community Hall for the excellent purvey, and to Stan Lupton and his staff for completing all arrangements for the funeral service. Finally sincere thanks to all those who paid their last respects both at Dalmally and at Cardross, many travelling a great distance to attend, and who so generously donated £1852.78 to Macmillan Cancer Care and North Argyll Carers. Iain will be greatly missed.
