People who know me will be familiar with my penchant for a beer or two after a long shift in the OT offices.
So it should come as little surprise that well-known local businessman Graeme Bass engages me in conversation in the Lorne bar.
The ever-genial Graeme is keen to promote the weekly pub quiz he hosts in the Lorne and which is proving extremely popular.
During the tourist season, the bar is usually packed, with many visitors enjoying Graeme’s idiosyncratic sense of humour as he pitches his questions.
However, unsurprisingly, the numbers drop off a little at this time of year and Graeme is keen for as many local people as possible to take part.
Fancy it? It happens each Wednesday from about 8.45pm.
I am sitting at work the other day when the telephone rings and I find myself chatting with Neil Matheson, of Mathesons Furnishings in Soroba Road.
‘Are you still interested in photos of people reading The Oban Times in unusual places?’ he inquires.
‘Yes, why though?’ I respond.
‘Because I’ve got a photo of myself reading the paper while sitting on a reef in Oban Bay that is usually under water and is only accessible at low tide,’ he explains.
Neil went on to say he was particularly taken with our Mòd coverage and enjoyed perusing the results while perched on his reef.
