Kyokushinkai Karate

This Sunday sees the 2019 Caledonia Kyokushin Junior tournament at Mid Argyll Sports Centre, Lochgilphead. Entries are coming in from several clubs from as far away as Perth. A full report on the tournament will be in the next report in two weeks.

The club’s next intake of beginners will be at the start of January to allow those already training to concentrate on their syllabus work for the next grading test in December.

The juniors at Senshi Do Kick Boxing are training hard for the Caledonia Kyokushin Clicker tournament on November 10 in Lochgilphead. This annual tournament is a highlight of the year for the juniors and those that enter never fail to enjoy the experience.

The next grading will be on Saturday December 14 with several of the youngsters going for their Junior Black Belt and two of the older ones going for their 1st Dan Black Belt.

Training is every Wednesday from 4.30pm until 6pm for juniors, five years to 15 years, then from 6pm until 7.30pm for seniors. Also Sundays from 11am until 1pm for juniors. Beginners are always welcome and more information is available on our Facebook page Senshi Do Kickboxing or by emailing

Shukokai Karate

The students are training hard for the tournament in Lochgilphead on November 10 and for the next grading test in Dalmally Community Centre on November 24.

Wado Kai Karate

Oban Wado Kai karate clubs are hosting a course this weekend at Atlantis Leisure from 11am to 4pm. This will be a combined styles event led by Ronnie Watt Shotokan Master (9th Dan) from Aberdeen and his lifelong friend Chris Bruce, 8th Dan Wado Ryu who is based in Oban.

The event will incorporate a Bunkai Masterclass led by Ronnie using Kata forms familiar across various styles of karate and a grading event. There will also be basics training for some of the youngsters who train at Park Primary School once a week and any other young students of the sport. The cost is £25 per person for the day.
