Adam Sutherland, renown Scottish fiddler and MG Alba Scots Trad Music awards Composer of the year 2017 will be in Oban next month to run a weekend of instrumental and voice workshops.
Adam will be joined by Oban’s Sileas Sinclair – Oban Gaelic Choir Conductor and excellent instrumentalist herself.
As well as the individual workshops for musicians and singers, there will also be a collaborative workshops with instrumentalists and singers together, and an evening concert by Adam and Sileas, supported by young local fiddler Bronwen Davies and fellow university music student friends. This concert will also be open to the public.
Participants who sign up to the course will enjoy Friday and Saturday evening sessions of informal sharing of tunes and songs in the Lancaster hotel which will be the workshops social base for the weekend.
The weekend takes place on the weekend of November 2 and 3 in St Columba’s church hall.
The workshops will consist of learning new tunes and songs possibly some of Adam/ Sileas’s compositions. These are usually taught by ear, then work will probably be done on arranging, ornamenting and building up harmonies. Adam and Sileas will be ably supported by guitarist Mike Bryan.
This weekend is ticketed through Eventbrite with spaces selling quickly. Tickets for the concert are being sold through the same platform with any remaining tickets being sold on the door. Queries about either event can be directed to organiser Lindsay Davis on 07884 492674.
