Oban – United Auctions on Tuesday September 10 held their Annual Show and Sale of Blackface Wedder lambs at Oban Livestock Centre also Sale of all classes Cross Bred Lambs and Feeding Sheep. A total of 3785 Lambs and Sheep were sold, and this recorded an increase of 692 head on the year. The show of pens of 20 or more Blackface Wedder Lambs was ably judged by Craig Malone, Pitcairn Farm, Cardenden. His awards were as follows: Champion pen taking the Carrs Billington Shield was Achalic Farm which sold for £54.50 to the judge. 2 nd Turnault £48.50 to J Gilvear and Sons, Stirling. 3 rd Fiart, £46.50 to J Gilvear and Sons. The sale average for the Blackface Lambs was £33.23 which records a drop of £3.28 per head on the year. It was evident throughout the sale that there wasn’t the normal tail end of Blackface Lambs presented. The overall average of the sale was £35.09 which is £5.70 back on the corresponding sale last year.

Dalmally – United Auctions on Saturday September 14 held their annual show and Sale of Blackface Wedder Lambs at Dalmally Auction Mart which was sponsored by The Blackface Sheep Breeders Association. The show was ably judged by long standing supporter of this event, Mr Ben Jack, Wester Upper Urquhart Farm, Fife who made the following awards: Champion Pen of 40 or more BF Lambs and winner of the James Weir, Memorial Trophy = Achnaba £58. 2 nd = Clachan Farms, Kilninver £57.50 3 rd = Glenfeochan Estate £47.50. All three pens were purchased by M/s Errington, Penrith. The Blackface Wedder Lambs averaged £39.02 per head or 137.6p per kilo (+ £1.67 per head). The overall average price for the 7181 head sold was £39.86 against £39.98 at the corresponding sale last year with 302 more sold.

Tiree – United Auctions held their Second Sale of Lambs and the Annual Sale of Breeding and Feeding Sheep, also all classes Cattle at Tiree Auction Mart. 1265 head of sheep was sold. Cattle, in keeping with mainland trends met with a hesitant trade. All classes of sheep sold well.

Portree – Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd on September 16 sold 2,405 store lambs and feeding sheep.
Lambs (2,240) averaged £39.13 (+£5.38 on the year) and sold to £69 gross for Crosses from 15 Glenconon, Uig.
Feeding sheep (165) sold to £73 gross for a Cheviot ram from 7 Herbusta, Kilmuir.
