More than 150 golfers competed in two shotgun starts at Glencruitten Golf Club last Saturday for the John MacEachen Memorial Trophy.

Players included John’s nephew Cameron who was visiting from New Zealand.

Well over 200 people including family and friends enjoyed the superb weather which was ordered especially for the event.

The bar was kept busy all day causing them to run out of lager twice.
The winning team was ‘The Oban Inn’ with a superb score of 98 points.

Runners up were ‘Gow’s Gang’, although they were a clear first at drinking!

Nearest the pin was Greig MacFarlane and the longest drive was Eddy Swift.
Entertainment was kindly provided by Tom Adams, Neil MacKay, Ally Currie and Hector MacFadyen.

There was huge disappointment there was no repeat vocal performance like last year from Sandy Gow, Dugald MacLean and Peter MacCuish senior but rumour has it they already had a gig at The Hydro – not sure if that is Glasgow or Oban Hydro.

Special thanks to David and Kathleen Lafferty, the main sponsors of the day, and all the other local businesses and individuals who once again supported the event.

Thanks to Glencruitten Golf Club course and bar staff, MC Neil Armour (Mr Oban) and Kevin McGlynn for his photographs and banter.

The MacEachen family thank all the golfers and supporters who bought raffle tickets.

The total amount raised on the day came to more than £6,000 which will once again be distributed to local cancer charities.
