DEATHS
CLEAVE – Peter died suddenly on September 1, 2019 at Lorn and Islands Hospital, age 86. Dear beloved husband of Joan for 64 years. A dear father to Andrew and Valerie and grandfather to Ciaran and Albin. Very sadly missed by all of the family.
GALBRAITH – Peacefully at A.R.I after a short illness on August 25, 2019 on her 99th birthday, Betty (Crawford) Galbraith, Kiloran, Isle of Colonsay. Beloved wife of the late Hugh (Shepherd), dear mother to Hugh, Calum, Henry and Mamie and a much loved mother-in-law, granny and great-granny. A lovely lady who will be sadly missed.
HOBHOUSE – On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, aged 66, Georgina Dehra Catherine Hobhouse. Peacefully in Oban Hospital, after a short illness and many years of struggling with MS. A huge loss to her family, the Colonsay island community and her large and diverse network of friends across the world. She will be lovingly remembered for a long time, by a lot of people. Funeral to be held in Colonsay on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 11 – all welcome.
KNEPIL – Peacefully in Lorn and Islands Hospital, Oban after a long illness in her 79th year, Krysten. Funeral Service to take place at St. Columba’s Cathedral, Oban on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 10.00am. A private cremation will follow.
MACLURG – Niall Iain Maclurg, aged 56, suddenly at his home in Tarves on August 26, 2019. Youngest son of the late Margaret (Meg) and John (Jack) Maclurg, formerly Dalmally. In accordance with his wishes, Niall has been cremated with no service. He will be remembered fondly by many, just remember the good times.
McARTHUR – On Wednesday August 28, 2019, in his 87th year, John McDonald McAllister McArthur, a dear brother and uncle. Funeral will take place from St. Columba’s Cathedral, Esplanade, Oban on Wednesday, August 11 at 10.00 am. Thereafter to Pennyfuir Cemetery.
McARTHUR – Matilda Avril Jane McAulay McArthur. Peacefully, at the Mid Argyll Hospital, on August 26, 2019, (Matilda) Avril, of 47 MacDonald Terrace, Lochgilphead, loving wife of the late Neil McArthur, cherished mother to Jean, Caroline, Catherine, Neil and Fiona, elder sister of Mary, Elizabeth and Ben, and a sorely missed grandmother and mother-in-law. Dear aunt to all the family. Funeral service was held in Lochgilphead Parish Church, on Monday, September 2, 2019, followed by interment at Achnabreac Cemetery. Sadly missed.
MILLICAN – Charles William. Peacefully at home on Sunday, August 25, 2019, Charles, beloved husband of Ruth and much loved Dad of Donald, Kirsty and Calum. Burial at Rutherglen cemetery on Friday, September 6 at 11am followed by a service in Queen’s Park Baptist Church, Balvicar Drive, Glasgow at 12 noon. Family flowers only, please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Cancer Research.
SIM – Elizabeth (Betty). Suddenly at home, on September 1, 2019, Betty, aged 86, much loved wife of the late Ian Sim, mother of Robert, Alexander and Philip and Granny of Jamie, Katie, Jennifer, Michael and Lindsey. Funeral at Falkirk Crematorium on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 12.15pm.

MACLUGASH – Ernie. The family would like to thank all who attended the funeral or sent cards or flowers and expressed sympathy, or gave us support. Thank you to Carol and Brian Fallows for being so helpful to us by enabling our arrangements for Ernie’s funeral service in Fort William Baptist Church. Thanks also to Alan Smillie for conducting the service and Frances Sedgewick for playing music for the hymns. Thanks to John Flannigan of McLellan Undertakers for his helpfulness. Thank you Dr Tregaskis and the paramedics at Belford hospital. Thank you Pulmonary Nurse Michelle Duffy of Raigmore Hospital. Very special thanks to Glen Mor surgery staff, who treated Ernie with such kindness and expertise during his long illness and when he died suddenly, but peacefully at home. Thanks to all who generously donated towards the total £558.65p for Glen Mor Surgery (Equipment Fund).
O’DONNELL – The O’Donnell family would like to thank family, friends and neighbours for their kindness, words of support, flowers and cards during our sad loss of Danny; a much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. A special thank you to Dr John Wallace for always going above and beyond in his care and to his colleagues at Craig Nevis Surgery. Thank you to Craig Gardiner and the Community Nurses for their professionalism and compassion. We would also like to thank Fr Roddy, Fr David and Fr Emmanuel for their words of comfort, McDonald Bros for their lovely flower arrangements, Caol Community Centre for the funeral tea and McFall Funeral Directors for their professionalism. Finally, many thanks to all who came to pay their last respects to Danny and generously donated £1061.67 to the community nurses.
