The club captain, gents captain, greenkeeper and gents match secretary met on the course on Saturday evening, after a day of heavy rain and another one forecast.

Would the Dalmally Gents Open on Sunday be on or off? By three votes to one, it was agreed to keep going and hope the course would be playable.

The optimists won, the match went on with Sunday proving to be an excellent day for golf. Apart from a couple of showers, the sun shone, even strong enough to keep the midges at bay. And Argyll golfers, who are made of stern stuff, turned up in numbers to post some impressive scores.

With an entry of more than 60 players, the competition was fierce and some excellent scores were posted. Top places on the handicap section went to: 1 Peter MacDougall, Glencruitten (net 58); 2 Allan Stewart, Taynuilt (net 63); 3 Calum Munro (net 65).

Scratch prizes went to: 1 Graeme MacKechnie, Dalmally (68 bih); 2 John R Cowan, Taymouth Castle (68); 3 Ryan Mcglyn, Lochgilphead (70).
Among the other prizewinners were: Nearest the Pin: 1/10th – Graeme MacKechnie, Dalmally; 3/12th – Kevin Mills, Taynuilt; 5/12th – Cameron Milne, Glencruitten; 7/16th – Gordon Pirie, Inveraray. Longest Drive – Ryan Mcglyn, Lochgilphead. The sweep was won by Lorne Campbell from Inveraray.

Graeme MacKechnie, Dalmally club captain and winner of the Scratch Open Trophy, centre, with playing partners Jim Livingstone and William Dougal.

Graeme MacKechnie, Dalmally club captain, thanked the players for their great support of the Open. He also thanked the club team which organised the event, providing great food and hospitality and preparing the course in excellent condition.

Graeme also invited them to take part in the club’s Mixed Pairs Open on Sunday August 18. To enter, contact Tony Graham, Gents Match Secretary, on 07899 914429 or email
