This weekend Oban Saints GG AFC and Oban Saints YFC are holding an Argyll and Bute Invitational tournament which sees the adult Saints team’s newly-formed development second team and Saints Youth’s under 14s compete against excellent opposition before the new season begins.
On Saturday, the adults start off by welcoming old friends Lochgiliphead Red Star, who did an exceptional job of hosting the larger version of the cup competition in recent years, along with the Caledonian League Division 1 winners Milngavie Wanderers. Completing an extremely strong line-up is Ayrshire Amateur Division 1 champions New Loch Farm.
On Sunday, the club’s under 14 team line-up against equally tough opposition – Ardencaple, Fort William and Central Boys. Similar to their adult team associates, the 2006’s will use this tournament to get ready to embark in their second season in the GADYFL.
All games will be played at Oban High School’s 3G pitch and Glen 2, with the adult games on Saturday being 50 minutes and the youth teams 40 minutes on the Sunday. The competition on both days gets under way at noon.
Spectators and supporters are welcome to go along on both days for what is sure to be an entertaining weekend of football that in total will bring more than 160 footballers to the town.
