Lochaber MSP Kate Forbes has welcomed £6,000 funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to the Movern Community Woodlands (MCW) group.
MCW will now conduct a new economic impact assessment, having already registered an interest under the Scottish Government’s Community Right to Buy legislation to purchase the 2,392-hectare Killundine Estate.
Ms Forbes met with the group and visited part of the state earlier in the year. She said she was delighted to see their plans progress to the next step.
‘This is a significant development for Morvern Community as HIE provides support to take the buy-out one step further,’ she said.
‘It is a unique opportunity to acquire land and assets, in a place which has long battled against depopulation.
‘There are many good things happening locally and in recent years there have been significant developments such as the pontoons in Lochaline.
‘However it still stands that communities in Morvern are landlocked and it is great to see this group push ahead to change that.’
