In preparation for the new season in the Central Scottish AFL, Oban Saints returned to pre-season training on Monday night.

Fitness coach Jemma Campbell and co-managers Donald Campbell, Willie Gemmell and coach Jamie Graham put the squad through their paces.

The club is looking to strengthen its squad for the coming season so players, who think they can play at the highest level, will be made more than welcome at pre-season training.

Saints secretary David Buchanan said: ‘It’s going to be an exciting time for the club this season running two teams. The first team will be playing in the highly competitive Central Scottish AFL and the second team in the Greater Glasgow League.’

The first team’s pre-season schedule starts with the D & K Lafferty Cup tournament on Saturday July 13, followed by three 90-minute fixtures. The first of these is a home game against Port Glasgow United on Saturday July 20, followed by another home fixture on Saturday July 27 against former Scottish Cup winners Shortlees, who Saints beat in the semi-final of the West of Scotland Cup last season. The squad then travel to Inverness on Saturday August 3 to take on high-flying North Caledonian League side Inverness Athletic.

This game will take place on the 4G pitch at Inverness Royal Academy with a 1pm kick-off. The Oban side will be staying in Inverness on the Saturday night.

The second team are in the process of arranging their pre-season programme.
