In preparation for the new season in the Central Scottish AFL, Oban Saints return to pre-season training on Monday July 1 at the rugby club starting at 7pm. Fitness coach Gemma Campbell and co-managers Donald Campbell, Willie Gemmell and coach Jamie Graham will be putting the squad through their paces.

The club are looking to strengthen their squad so new players, who think they can play at the highest level, will be made more than welcome at pre-season training.

Saints secretary David Buchanan said: ‘It’s going to be an exciting time for the club this season as we have started a second team who will play in the Greater Glasgow AFL.’

The first team pre-season schedule starts with the annual six-team D & K Lafferty Cup tournament on Saturday July 13 at Mossfield and Glencruitten. Teams taking part are Dundee United (holders), Hamilton Accies, Alloa Athletic, St Anthony’s, South Lochaber Thistle and Oban Saints.

The tournament is followed by three 90-minute fixtures. The first of these is a home game against Port Glasgow United on Saturday July 20, followed by another home fixture on Saturday July 27 against former Scottish Cup winners Shortlees, who Saints beat in the semi-final of the West of Scotland Cup last season. The squad then travel to Kinlochleven on Saturday August 3 to play newly-promoted South Lochaber Thistle. The Central League programme starts on Saturday August 10.

The second team are in the process of arranging their pre-season programme.
