Caledonian Marts Ltd, Tuesday June 18: sold 657 Spring Lambs, Prime Hoggets, Ewes & Tups.

Included in the sale was the show and sale of Suffolk prime lambs, held in conjunction with the west and central Scotland Suffolk Club and was kindly sponsored by McCaskie Farm Supplies and Shearwell Data. The show was ably judged by Bill MacKinnon of Scotbeef. Overall average for 454 sold was 207.3ppkg (-8.4p on the week).

Outwith the show, top price of the day went to D Nicol, Auchtenny for a 46kg Beltex at £115 and the same lamb topped the ppkg at 250p.

Also forward were 233 Cast Ewes , Tups & Hoggs. All classes, particularly Mules and Blackfaces would be sharper on the week, with heavier ewes also seeing a slight increase. Heavy Ewes averaged £87.50 selling to £110 for a Texel from Donibee Livestock, Whitehills, Crossgates. Light Ewes averaged £58.09 selling to £71 for a Cheviot from D Nicol, Auchtenny, Forgandenny.

Cast Tups sold to £86 for a Texel from E Forrester, Cattlemoss, Saline.
