This was the scene when an air ambulance landed close to Connel Bridge to help an elderly man who had taken ill.

Police had to shut the road on Friday morning, causing tailbacks in all directions until the area was clear again.

The helicopter was met by a road ambulance. It is understood the man who was airlifted to hospital was not a motorist and there had not been a road collision.

The medical emergency happened at around 11am.
