The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is back in town this weekend and you cannot help but notice the buzz around the area in the build-up to this fantastic event.

Nevis Range Mountain Resort will attract world-class athletes from 25 countries to compete at the highest level on the challenging slopes of Aonach Mor, home to a 2.8km mountain bike downhill course  internationally renowned as one of the longest and toughest on the World Cup circuit.

The Mountain Bike World Cup is a firm favourite in Scotland’s events calendar and it is one of our most acclaimed sporting events. Riders often say this is their favourite stop on the World Cup circuit, thanks to the amazing atmosphere and enthusiasm generated by the huge, vocal crowds who flock to Lochaber to be a part of the action.

It is hard to believe this is the 18th consecutive year for the Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William. We are used to it being part of our year, but we should not take it for granted.

Fort William is the only UK stop on the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup circuit and hosting the World Cup and World Championships over almost two decades has played a huge part in building the profile and reputation of Lochaber as the ‘Outdoor Capital of the UK’. It attracts the attention of the world’s media and has helped to put Lochaber on the map for outdoor adventures.

Lochaber is renowned for its warm welcome and fun atmosphere during this weekend. So let’s enjoy the buzz of the Mountain Bike World Cup and celebrate the benefits this world-class event brings to our area.
