Oban’s Alba art shop has been nominated for a top national award.
Ten years after its previous win, Alba has again made it into the finals of the prestigious nationwide greeting card retail awards – the Retas.
Now in their 15th year, the Retas were launched by Progressive Greetings magazine to recognise and rewardthe UK’s best card retailers. Greetings cards are sold in one in six shops in the UK so reaching the finals of the Retas is a significant achievement.
Jakki Brown, editor and co-owner of Progressive Greetings magazine, said: ‘The sending of greetings cards is an ingrained part of UK culture, with the British public spending £1.7 billion on them in the past year alone.
‘The nation leads the world in greetings cards design and sends more cards per capita than anywhere else. The Retascelebrate the finest greetings card stockists in the UK.’
All Retas finalists were chosen as a result of an industry-wide poll of suppliers, reps and agents, and were validated by a panel of experts.
The winners will be revealed at a lunch at the glamorousGrosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane on Wednesday July 10.
Alba’s Graham Fraser said: ‘All of us at Alba are very pleased to be seen to be holding our own after such massive changes in retail in the past 10 years.’
