Skye MSP Kate Forbes says she is hopeful that Portree and Braes Community Trust’s plan to redevelop the town’s harbour can be progressed, following a meeting between the group and the Scottish Government’s islands minister Paul Wheelhouse.
Ms Forbes met with the trust’s development officer Fiona Thomson earlier in the year and offered to work with them to help fulfill the harbour’s potential – including facilitating the discussion with Mr Wheelhouse.
Locals have been attempting to secure significant investment for Portree harbour for three decades.
‘Regenerating Portree harbour is long overdue. At a time when there is pressure on the harbour infrastructure and a significant increase in visitors, it’s obvious how important this work is,’ she said.
‘I first met with people to discuss the harbour project a month or so ago and I offered them all my support.
‘That’s why I asked Paul Wheelhouse if he’d be willing to meet them and hear more about it.
‘Since meeting them, I’ve visited Stornoway Port Authority to see how they’ve made so much progress with their regeneration plans.
‘Anything is possible in Portree with the right people, the right plan and the right funding.’
