Lochaber Athletic Club’s annual winter league finished with a prizegiving and ceilidh on Saturday night.
Athletes gathered at the Alexandra Hotel for a night of celebration to reflect on another stellar season of hill running which saw runners take part in 11 races over four months.
The club did not have a day off from competition, however, as the adults and juniors still had one last race to run. Both of the final prizegiving races started at the North Face Car Park, where a trophy presentation was made afterwards. Once the day’s racing was over, the club shifted attention to the evening’s end of season ceilidh.
After 11 rounds of racing, league organisers had the unenviable task of totting up the points to determine the winners.
Isla MacKay was crowned female league champion, with Lisette Walter and Keri Wallace finishing close behind in the table. Karen Lyons won the female veteran 40 title, while Helen Leggett took top spot in the female veteran 50 category.
In a close contest, Esmond Tresidder came out on top in the male category to win the league. John Yells was a close second, while Javier Cabrera Valdes rounded off the top three. Ryan MacKenzie took top spot in the male veteran 40 category, Manny Gorman won the male veteran 50 league and Don Reid came out on top in the male veteran 60 category.
Junior overall winter league results:
Girls U11: 1 Maddison Macmillan, 105; 2 Ishbel Arlie-Gilbert, 75; 3 Eilidh Lander, 68.
Boys U11: 1 Aaron Tressider, 95; 2 Kai Tressider, 64.
Girls U13: 1 Mya Carmichael, 105; 2 Lucy Stephen, 80.
Boys U13: 1 Sorley Swabey, 105; 2 Duncan Macdonald, 90; 3 Sonny Ross, 75.
Boys U15: 1 Felix Deschenes, 105.
The final overall winter league table for the adults is yet to be finalised.
The club thanked Lochaber Embroidery And Printing for sponsoring the league this year and providing trophies, T-shirts, certificates and medals for junior runners and trophies and T-shirts for the adults.
