When a well-known local business teams up with a nationwide company with a big reputation, it is a recipe for success – just ask Waltons of Oban and Wiltshire Farm Foods.

Eric Walton and his team are the driving force – literally – behind the frozen ready meal service provided by Wiltshire Farm Foods in this area.

When Eric was made redundant in 2002, he started as a one-man, one-van operation that has grown to employ 20 people and run 12 vans and trucks to cover Oban, Campbeltown, Fort William, Mallaig, Dunoon and the islands of Mull, Iona, Islay, Jura and Bute. Lorries also run to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Lismore, Coll, Tiree, Colonsay and Barra can also be reached by sub-contractors.

The specialised food delivery vehicles are a regular sight on the roads of the West Highlands, operating from the Waltons of Oban base at Lochavullin Road.

Since 2004, Waltons has also operated a thriving Wiltshire Farmfoods franchise, delivering frozen meals to whoever needs them in their homes. The service is primarily aimed at older age groups and individuals with particular nutritional needs.

Wiltshire Farm Foods offers more than 300 dishes in different portion sizes for specialist diets, allergies, specific nutritional needs such as calorie or protein levels, dietary intolerances and texture modification.

The meals are designed to a high standard and can be ordered by telephone to the office in Oban or online at

‘Over many years, our regular customers feel more like friends,’ said Eric. ‘Our friendly office team takes many orders every day and our Disclosure Scotland certified drivers will even place the meals carefully in your freezer and pick your mail up.

‘Some customers eat our meals every day, and some just occasionally as a back-up.’
