The men from Oban Hockey Club travelled to Glasgow last Saturday to take on Giffnock Hockey Club.

A strong performance from Oban was necessary as only 10 players were available.

Coach David Love’s tactical training on Thursday evenings was put into practice with great effect leading to goals from Jack Johnston (2), Theo Andrews (1), Zeph Petit (1) and Andy Hodge (1). The final score of 5-0 to Oban reflected the supreme effort of everyone who played.

The Oban man of the match was Jack Johnston.

On Friday, a squad from Oban headed to Lochaber High School to take on Lochaber Hockey Club in the West Highland Mixed League.

Stuart Head did a great job umpiring his first game. Congratulations to Charlie Johnston (wo)man of the match for her excellent tackling, harassing and passing up front and on the wing. Special mention goes to Charmaine Love and Leanne Munro without whom Lochaber would have had many more scoring opportunities. Some fantastic tackles, interceptions and distributing passes lead to a great game. Final score 1-0 to Oban.

Saturday saw the Oban men in Helensburgh taking on the Western Wildcats. An early goal by Andy Hodge put Oban in the lead. Further shots on goal from Stuart Head and Jack Anderson were disallowed. The Wildcats rallied and Oban were unable to add to the tally leaving the final score 1-0 to Oban.

Man of the match for Oban was George Gauley who showed great determination and ball work in mid-field. Thanks to Charmaine Love for refereeing the game.

Next weekend the men from Oban travel to Helensburgh to take on the Helensburgh Mens 2 Team.
