Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd, February, 20: sold 741 store cattle, 65 adult head of breeding cattle and 108 OTM cattle.

Bullocks (403) averaged 231.6p, and sold to 326.9p per kg for a 260kg Limousin cross from Croft Grant, Dalchalm, and £1,370 for a 750kg Limousin cross from Ashley, North Kessock.

Heifers (331) averaged 212.2p, and sold to 262.2p per kg for a pen of 286kg Charolais crosses from Pitmain Farm, Kingussie and £1,220 for a pen of 610kg Charolais crosses from Ardjachie, Tain.

Young Bulls (7) averaged 202.5p and sold to 232.0p per kg for a pair of Aberdeen Angus crosses from Spittal Shore, Strathpeffer, and £800 for a British Blue cross from 25 Camult Muir, Kiltarlity.

Heifer in calf (48) sold to £1,900 (four times) for Simmental crosses from Westfield Farm, Thurso.

Cow in calf (15) sold to £1,400 (thrice) for British Shorthorn and Simmental crosses from Bogburn Farm, Duncanston.

Cow with calves at foot (2) sold to £1,100 for a Shorthorn cross cow from 2 Cragganvallie, Kiltarlity.

Prime Heifers topped at 250p for a Limousin from Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by D Campbell, Butcher, Callander and to £1548 for a Limousin from Rathillet Farm, Cupar purchased by H A Black & Son, Butcher, Stirling.

Prime Bullocks reached 235p for a Limousin from Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by W W Wales Ltd, Wholesaler, Kilmarnock and to £1607 for a Limousin from South Flanders, Kippen.

Young Bulls sold to 208p for a Limousin from Dyke, Milton of Campsie and to £1385 from the same home.

With a much plainer show for quality overall, the trade would be dearer to that of last week. Fleshed Beef OTM’s averaged 126p selling to 137p for a Limousin from T & R Crawford, Sheilds and to £1130 for a Shorthorn from W Young & Son, Templehall. Overall average including Feeding Cows was 116ppk.

With a poorer show Dairy Cows forward, the average was 89p selling to 121p from R Denholm & Son, Wester Lochdrum and to £900 from P Johnston & Son, Glenrigg.

A top price of £300 was reached on three occasions, once for a Limousin Bull Beef Calf from A McKenzie & Partners, Ardgate, Gartocharn, and also for a pair of Simmental Cross Bull Beef Calves from J Brisbane & Son, Gartclush, Bannockburn.
