Notice has just been served by the last branch of Santander in Argyll and Bute that it will close in Helensburgh on April 25.

Santander has said 90 per cent of its customers use additional ways to complete their banking – 22 per cent at another Santander branch and 59 per cent online, by mobile or be telephone.

Argyll and Bute MP Brendan O’Hara said: ‘I have written to Santander to express my dismay at this latest closure.

‘I am not aware of any public or customer consultation to assess the impact of this closure.’
