MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch Kate Forbes collected a ‘rising star’ accolade at the annual Scottish Politician of the Year awards in Edinburgh.
Ms Forbes, who is serving her first-term as a politician after the 2016 Scottish Parliament elections, won the One to Watch category – which organisers said is ‘an award that recognises the MSP demonstrating the most potential to rise through the ranks of their party and/or in Parliament’.
Ms Forbes commented: ‘It has been a steep learning curve but I hope that my constituents feel like I do everything possible to support them, to represent the Highlands and to, in some small way, make a difference.
‘Of course, the most important judges, as it were, will always be my constituents but I do appreciate this award.’
It was the second year in a row that Ms Forbes had been a finalist for the award, and this year she beat off competition from the Greens’ Ross Greer and Conservative Liam Kerr.
The annual ceremony – in its 20th year – took place in Edinburgh last Thursday.
