A recent charity dinner in Sleat raised more than £5,600 for The Highlands Support Refugees organisation.
The money will pay for a 40ft-long container of aid to be shipped to Chios in Greece. The event was organised by Gwen Culbertson and Angela MacGillivray and plans are now under way for a clothes collection in Portree in the new year.
‘The incredible support we have from local artists, local businesses and the local community ensures that ever penny raised goes directly to The Highlands Support Refugees and the amazing work they do,’ said the two women in a joint statement.
‘We have raised almost £10,000 in the past year and we have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity and support for this important cause.’
