Despite the change in weather, spirits were high last weekend at the Rockfield Centre as the community yet again dug deep to purchase community shares.
With the minimum target now reached, the project fund continues to grow.
Gordon McNab, Oban Communities Trust chairman, said: ‘I have been so impressed by the number of families who have pooled their funds to purchase the minimum share and yet again put the trust in the trust to make this exciting project come to life.’
But it is not just individuals who are purchasing, said Mr McNab. He added: ‘This week we were delighted to add Spotlight Musical Theatre Group to our list of investors.’
Sheena McLennan, talking on behalf of the group, said: ‘The members felt the project was so pivotal to the town for both locals and visitors that they wanted to help by investing £1,000 to the cause.’
Although the minimum target has been more than met with the figure now over £135,000, the trustees are conscious that, with Oban in the middle of a very busy summer season and families away on holiday during the share offer, many could be missing the opportunity to be part of their centre.
For this reason the Oban Communities Trust board members have made the decision to extend the deadline for just another few weeks to give everyone time to invest and be part of this unique opportunity to shape the future of this project.
