Ballet West’s final year students will be showcasing their skills in Oban this Saturday, May 19.
Dancers from the Taynuilt-based school will be performing at the Corran Halls before some of them graduate and start out on professional careers.
Kate Little, a second-year BA Hons degree student from Oban, will be among the cast of dancers performing examples of what they have learned from classical to modern ballet and contemporary.
Alongside classical work will be contemporary newly choreographed pieces by award-winning choreographers, Indra Reinholde, Natasha Watson and Martin Fenton.
Among the dancers will be Uyu Hiromoto, recent winner of a silver medal in the South African International Ballet Competition. She will be dancing a principal role and performing in four of the contemporary works.
The Showcase marks a transition for third-year students as this is their last performance as a student of Ballet West. It is also the final assessment that the students take before graduating with a BA(Hons) in Dance, awarded by the Open University.
‘It is also a wonderful opportunity for audiences to see these exceptionally talented students performing an exciting programme of classical and contemporary work before they set off on a professional career,’ said Ballet West Principal Gillian Barton.
