THE OBAN under 15 girls welcomed a rather inexperienced Islay team on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Oban Lorne Rugby club.
The visitors’ lack of experience went unnoticed as the game went on. The wet surface forced a few knock-ons resulting in quite a slow match with lots of scrums. The Oban girls dominated the first half, with some big carries from Jordan MacIntyre and captain Isla MacGillvary.
After the half-time whistle, Islay kicked to Oban’s scrum-half Rona Shearer who caught the ball and confidently burst through the Islay defence for a breakaway try scoring under the posts.
The next kick-off fell to Amy Gibson who managed to show off some impressive footwork and get through the defence to increase Oban’s lead.
The final try came after Oban’s forwards managed to turn the ball over in a scrum on the five-metre line. The ball was passed to Rowan Drummond, who ran around the blind side of the scrum and scored to bring the final score to 34-10.
