Oban High School held their annual badminton championship just before the Christmas break in Atlantis Leisure. More than 80 pupils contested the coveted U14, U16 and U19 singles, level doubles and mixed doubles titles.

With the school competition now attracting such high numbers every year, OHS PE teacher Denise Gemmell is making a plea to see if there are members of the community willing to donate a trophy for any of the competitions.

Denise explained: ‘We have 15 competitions with the different age sections and the singles, doubles and mixed events. The small entry fee we charge pupils covers the cost of hall hire, shuttles and medals.

‘We would love to present some trophies to our winners and I know there is a very strong badminton community in Oban so this may be a lovely opportunity to remember a loved one or perhaps donate a trophy as a business or from an individual.

‘Donated trophies would take pride of place in our new school trophy cabinet and, with the competition taking place in school, it takes place every year with huge numbers without fail.’

Please contact Denise at Oban High School PE department if you could help in any way with a donation of a trophy.
