Oban Rotary’s Young Musician of the Year for 2017 is Katie Houston, a fifth-year pupil at Oban High School.

Katie, who plays the flute, performed at the senior prize-giving at the Argyllshire Gathering back in June when Rotary president Graham Fraser presented her with the club’s engraved quaich, a certificate and a cheque for £50.

Iain MacIntyre, of Oban Rotary Club, said: ‘Katie committed fully to the range of extracurricular music opportunities that her school offered, often performing at school concerts and recitals.

‘Katie also passed her Royal School of Music grade five flute this year while also balancing five Highers – quite an achievement.’
