The Western Isles Island Games Association (WIIGA) has finalised its selection for this year’s NatWest Island Games.
The week-long international event, sponsored by the Scottish Salmon Company and several local businesses and organisations, is being hosted in Gotland, Sweden, from June 24. WIIGA will take a squad of 90 athletes covering athletics, swimming, shooting, cycling/triathlon, golf, badminton, and men’s and women’s football.
The games provide island athletes with an opportunity to compete at an international event, with organisers expecting more than 3,000 competitors making this the biggest games to date.
General team manager Iain CG Campbell said: ‘This is an exciting moment for the selected team members as they all thoroughly deserve their chance to compete in Gotland. It’s another young squad, with half of them aged 21 or under, which is great to see and encouraging for the future.’
Scottish Salmon Company chief executive Craig Anderson said: ‘We wish all athletes and their teams the best of luck with their training and we will be following their progress in Gotland.’
