It was with pleasure that I read in last week’s edition how much some visitors enjoyed the Hogmanay fireworks.

This has prompted me to add my thanks to the people who helped make it happen, the businesses of Oban for their contribution to the cost of the fireworks, the volunteers who helped marshal the temporary road closures, D and K Lafferty, the Oban Bay Hotel, Argyll and Bute Council, and, of course, Fireworx Scotland. Additional thanks go to both CalMac and the Northern Lighthouse Board for sounding the ships’ horns, which added tremendously to the whole atmosphere.
