A MAJOR fire is ongoing at Millpark in Oban after a ‘huge explosion’ at the council yard shortly after 1.40am.

Multiple fire appliances attended as the crews fought to prevent the blaze spreading to nearby properties.

Police Scotland confirmed shortly after 2.50am that there were no casualties and that the incident was now being treated as a fire.

A cordon around the area has been set up -local houses have not been evacuated. Eye witnesses said huge flames were coming from the council yard area.

3.12am further explosions are being heard.
