POLICE in Lochaber are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Fort William on Monday.

A man, described as around 5’4” in height and of stocky build, is believed to have approached an elderly female and attempted to take her handbag. The incident took place in the Kilmallie Road area of Caol, near to the Co-op store, at around 9.50pm on Monday evening.

The man was said to be wearing dark clothing and carrying a shopping bag.

Detective Inspector Richard Baird said: ‘Fortunately, incidents like this are very rare in Lochaber and we have a full investigation plan in place to trace this individual.

‘To assist with our inquiries, officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident on Monday night or who thinks they can identify the man to make contact as a matter of urgency.

‘Officers are carrying out dedicated patrols in the area and will be reviewing CCTV and liaising with the community.

‘Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.’
