The setting was one of the most spectacular the top Grammy-awarded artist of his age has visited and his accommodation was award-winning too.
American hip hop recording artist and songwriter Kanye West was on the Isle of Skye to record a video to promote his new single, appropriately called ‘Waves,’ and chose Skeabost House Hotel to rest and refresh.
One of the best selling music artists of all time and winner of 21 Grammy Awards took half the hotel’s 14 rooms for himself and his entourage, stayed overnight, left to do the filming amid some of the island’s world famous scenery, and returned for a meal before heading back to Inverness Airport where his private jet awaited.
The 37-year-old star’s own room was the largest in the property, with a four-poster bed.
Skeabost was only acquired last April by Anne Gracie and Ken Gunn, who also own Duisdale and Toravaig House Hotels on the island. Since then it has been extensively refurbished and was recently short listed as Country House Hotel of the Year in the 2016 Scottish Hotel Awards after being voted the best in the Scottish Islands.
Seven miles from Skye’s main town of Portree, it has 23 acres of grounds with a fast flowing river popular with anglers fishing for salmon and trout, and is the only hotel on the island with its own golf course.
‘Kanye was the perfect guest – charming, courteous and polite,’ Anne Gracie commented.
‘We were delighted to offer him and his companions our usual Highland hospitality and would welcome him back any time.’
