John MacGregor, independent, has won Oban North and Lorn by-election at stage five of the count.
Returning officer Sally Loudon announced the result just before midnight on Thursday, July 17 after votes were counted from a turnout of 30.88 per cent.
Councillor MacGregor said: ‘There are issues in our communities that are easily solved.
‘We also need to bring trust and faith back to Argyll and Bute council.’
Councillor MacGregor says he wants to help ‘restore Oban to its rightful place as the main tourist destination on the west coast.’
