Fun in the sun at the Argyllshire Gathering brought a great crowd out to enjoy the annual event. And with record breaking attempts by local woman Nicola Meekin, adulation for Argyll's finest heavyweight and the wonderful sound of Oban High School Pipe Band it was a day not to be missed.

On Friday July 2 a fire started on the conveyor belt of the bulk cargo ship MV Yeoman Bontrup and spread to the superstructure of the ship.

Oban's first Festival of the Sea started with a parade of children through the town in sea creature costumes.

Duart Castle on Mull has come under attack as the Frasers Dragoones re-enact the 1647 siege of the Clan Maclean strong hold.

The Dragoones recently paid their annual visit to the castle, where they set up camp in true 1640s style and showed visitors to the castle how soldiers of the day dressed, lived and fought.

The re-enactment was of the Covenanters Campbells siege of the castle to subdue the royalist Macleans.

As one Oban ferry arrives - another one leaves
