Sir, This year’s planned Hogmanay party in Tesco’s car park is a joke.
Last year it was a great idea to do something for the people of the town after many years of being ignored by Argyll and Bute council.
We had an event to attend to celebrate the coming of a new year and it was a success, helped by the fact it was the only show in town as the local pubs agreed to remain closed while it was underway.
The organisers have taken this as a licence to rip people off this year.
Many people I have spoken to agree that they are having a laugh charging £11.50 for a ticket. A more reasonable price would be £5 or £6 as for just £10 in Edinburgh you would be able to see Glasvegas, Complete Stone Roses, Attic Lights and Broken Records, Peatbog Faeries Moishie’s Bagel, Burach and Watergaw, Great Calverto, Michelle McManus, Concrete Jungle Collective, Hot Chip and The Hoosiers.
Edinburgh is a bigger place with greater resources but that does not mean we are ripe for the picking, as the Oban organisers seem to assume.
I can see the Chilli pipers being a great act for a Hogmanay party, but the size of the acts should be reflected in the price of the event not the greed of the promoters.
