The regular Freakshow event, which showcases young bands in the town, was adapted and raised £212.55 for Oxjam, an organisation which raises money for Oxfam through music events.

Event organiser Scott Douglas, Argyll and Bute Council community learning and development officer, said: ‘We were going to hold a Freakshow event anyway and were approached by Oxjam to see if they could arrange an event.

‘We decided it would be suitable to use the Freakshow date.

‘The Corran Halls were kind enough to give us a reduced rate, with all the proceeds going to Oxfam.’

Oban teenager Sam Jespersen began the evening with an acoustic set and Oban band No Nightmares also performed. Glasgow band The Young States headlined and played for nothing.

David Maitland, Oxjam regional manager for Highlands and Islands, whose band Kinetic Friends also took to the stage, said: ‘We would like to thank Scott Douglas and everyone who organised the gig.

‘We are trying to organise Oxjam events all over the country and will be hoping to have most of them in March. We are planning 28 gigs that month.
