Primary teacher heads crossing patrol
Published:  09 October, 2008

ACHALEVEN Primary School head teacher Sharon Burt has a new job – as a lollipop lady.

Mrs Burt has taken on the role as the previous school crossing patrol person has not been replaced over the summer.

Parents are also concerned that the lack of a properly-working 20mph sign for drivers approaching from the east is adding to the dangers of crossing the busy A85 trunk road.

There are also concerns as children come out of the school in one group and the crossing patrol person also regulates children walking back and forth next to the busy road.

Difficult

Mrs Burt said: ‘On a rainy day like this it bring it home how difficult it would be for the parents, but we’re doing our bit.’

A spokeswoman for Argyll and Bute Council said: ‘We are aware the darker afternoons are coming in and all pupils will be issued with yellow vests which promote the Be Safe Be Seen message.

‘We will also be writing to all parents before the October holidays letting them know of the temporary measures we are taking until we have a school crossing patroller in post.’

The school is also asking drivers to take extra care when driving through the village of Connel.
