Lochaber WWII air crash pilot remembered

Canada and Scotland joined hands on Thursday, May16 2013, to remember the sacrifice of young Canadian airman FO John Donald MacDonnell whose Spitfire crashed into a Lochaber mountainside, while he was on a World War II aerial photographic reconnaissance mission.

Serenissima refloats after grounding in Oban Bay

The MS Serenissima, which went aground on a shingle bank in Oban Bay around 5.30pm on Monday May 20 2013, was refloated around midnight the same day with help from Oban lifeboat.

None of the 61 passengers and 51 crew were injured.

Iona marks 1,450th anniversary of St Columba’s arrival

An ecumenical service to commemorate the arrival of St Columba on Iona at Pentecost in 563 AD was held in Iona Abbey on May 19 2013.

Cruise liner goes aground in Oban Bay

A cruise liner went aground on the Corran Ledge on Monday evening, May 20 2013, in Oban Bay near St Columba’s Cathedral.

More than 400 sign Oban rent plea petition

More than 400 people have signed a petition asking Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA) to reconsider its decision to put the rent up from £100 to £3,600 a year on a property used by community organisation Soroba Young Family Group, a registered charity.
