AMATEUR photographers across the West Highlands and Islands are being urged to get snapping with Wyvex Media’s Photo of the Year competition. We are looking for photographs that sum up why this part of the world is your favourite. It can be anything,from your favourite place or activity to a picturesque sunset or local wildlife. Entries will be accepted until the end of January,so there is plenty of time to get out and about to grab that winning image. Each week,we’ll run a selection of the best photographs and even if you’re not taking part,you can vote for your favourite.
Either fill in the coupon which will appear each week while the competition is running in The Oban Times or text POY plus the number in the bottom right hand corner of the photo to 88010. You can vote for your favourite as many times as you like over the course of the competition.
The most popular photographs stand a chance of winning fantastic prizes in the Photo of the Year People’s Vote and our judges’ Grand Prize categories. Police are in the process of dealing with the incident and it is not known how long the road will be closed. The A82 is also closed northbound,north of Renton while police deal with another road traffic incident. Diversions are in place via the A816 to Lochgilphead –A83 to Inveraray –A819 to Dalmally to return to the A85. The Nicolson Institute in Stornoway will close early today as a precaution following a chemical spill at the school. MOTORISTS using the A83 between Machrihanish and Lochgilphead on Tuesday August 14 have been advised to allow extra time for their journey. A spokeswoman for Argyll and Bute Council said:‘A large,slow-moving vehicle will be leaving RAF Machrihanish around 9am to travel north along the A83 to Lochgilphead. It will then travel to Salachary,north of Kilmartin,using the A816. The vehicle will be escorted by the police and it will be travelling for approximately five hours. ‘Other road users are likely to experience delays of up to 20 minutes,although overtaking opportunities will be made available. Allowing extra time for your journey on Tuesday August 14 is advisable.’ | ||||
