Plans for an £800 million hydro electric scheme have been approved for Loch Lochy, north of Fort William.
Highland councillors gave their approval to the Scottish and Southern Electric 600MW scheme at Coire Glas, which will now go to Scottish Government ministers for approval.
Peter Walker, chairman of Glengarry Community Council, said opinion was divided on the plans:‘There are more people for it than against it. It will bring work to the area and create opportunities for young people, although we do realise there will be a bit of disturbance for the next few years.’
