Now that Glenelg has been twinned with Mars –the planet not the chocolate bar! –the tiny community has been propelled on to the inter-galactic stage.
A celebratory event took place at the weekend as a result of a small patch of Mars being dubbed Glenelg by US NASA boffins as the Mars rover Curiosity explores the Red Planet.
A stellar cast of scientists took part in the celebrations in a special planetarium marquee erected for the occasion.
